Federal Release Coverage
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 onward and includes some older records. It can retain a former federal prisoner with a release date or status. It does not cover a county-only arrest, a TDCJ state sentence, or ICE immigration detention.
No federal prison is located in Irion County. This page applies only when the known case, judgment, or transfer record identifies federal criminal custody. A local record must connect an Irion or Tom Green booking to a federal authority before the BOP search can explain what followed.
Search Federal Release Records
An identifying number is the safest route. BOP accepts BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS numbers. A name search can use exact name, race, age, and sex. Compare every result with the federal docket and known dates.
- Search the federal register number when available.
- Otherwise use the exact legal name and descriptors.
- Open the result and record location, status, and release date.
- Compare it with the federal judgment and sentence.
- Check for later supervision, transfer, or another sovereign's custody.
A result labeled Released supports the BOP sentence event. It does not prove the end of a county case, state case, immigration matter, or every detainer.
Federal Status Meanings
Read the displayed wording narrowly. BOP status describes BOP custody, not all government custody. A person can leave a BOP institution for a community placement, another authority, or release under federal court supervision.
| Source or status | What it establishes | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| BOP “Released” and date | End of the recorded BOP custody event | Other custody or supervision may remain |
| Not in BOP custody | No current BOP custody shown | Does not identify every other custodian |
| Federal judgment | Sentence and supervised-release terms | Does not give the physical exit moment |
| County transfer entry | Handoff to a federal authority | Does not prove the later BOP release |
Pair the federal judgment with BOP actual status. For a formal need, request the applicable federal record rather than treating a search result as a certificate.
BOP and Federal Contacts
The locator result should lead to the institution or federal record channel that owns the relevant event. For pretrial or transit custody, the U.S. Marshals Service directs inquiries by district and physical facility rather than offering a universal public release archive.

PACER, the federal court record system, supplies the judgment and later docket events. “Supervised release” in that judgment is administered through the federal court and U.S. Probation. It is not TDCJ parole or Concho Valley probation.
County Versus Federal Release
The Irion Sheriff and Tom Green Detention Center records cover the local custody episode. BOP covers a federal prison sentence. One does not replace the other. A person might be released from Tom Green to USMS or another federal custodian, meaning local custody ended while federal custody continued.
- Federal conviction
- A criminal judgment entered by a United States court.
- Supervised release
- Federal post-imprisonment supervision administered through U.S. Probation.
- USMS custody
- Federal prisoner custody that can use local contract facilities and may not appear as a normal BOP placement.
- Register number
- A federal identifier that sharply reduces same-name errors.
Search BOP only when the custody chain supports a federal sentence. ICE immigration custody belongs in ODLS instead.
Irion's Two-Agency Chain
TCJS reports Irion County at zero rated jail capacity, and Irion's official roster navigation points to Tom Green. That local chain still matters on a federal page because a transfer can begin with an Irion arrest record and a Tom Green physical booking before federal authorities receive the person.
Request the local release or transfer time, receiving agency, and detainer information. Then use the federal record to establish the later federal status. This linked proof is stronger than either system alone.
Federal Release Verification Limits
USMS pretrial detainees can be housed through a network, so a person may not appear as a sentenced prisoner at the expected point. BOP can also report a person outside a standard institution without explaining every local event. Search the federal docket and contact the relevant district or physical facility when the locator does not resolve the chain.
The Irion County released-inmate search sets the federal route beside county, TDCJ, parole, probation, and ICE channels.
Correct Federal Release Data
Identify whether the disputed field belongs to BOP, the federal court, USMS, Irion Sheriff, or Tom Green. Quote the register, booking, or case number and attach the source that supports a correction. Ask for a written response and the correct records procedure.
A local sheriff cannot revise the BOP release date, and BOP cannot revise an Irion arrest entry. Keeping each request with its custodian protects the distinction between local release, federal transfer, federal imprisonment, supervised release, and final sentence completion.
Federal Judgment Release Proof
The federal docket supplies the judgment, prison term, and supervised-release terms, but not always the precise exit moment. Join it with the BOP result or a formal custody record. Preserve the register number and displayed release date. If no result appears, check identifiers, case timing, USMS pretrial custody, and local contract housing.
Federal records before the locator's main 1982 coverage may require another agency request. A person held pretrial for USMS can also sit outside the expected sentenced-prison search path. Contact the federal district and physical facility with the case number. Never substitute a Tom Green roster exit for the later federal release.
Federal Supervision After Release
Federal supervised release is administered through U.S. Probation. It differs from TDCJ parole and Concho Valley probation. The federal judgment identifies the term, while later docket entries show modification or revocation. A BOP release date can coexist with federal supervision, a state case, a county warrant, or an immigration matter.
State each source narrowly. BOP records the federal custody exit, the court records sentence and supervision, and another sovereign records any later detention. “Not in BOP custody” never establishes that every other authority released the person.
BOP Historical Record Requests
For durable proof, request the federal custody history or release record through the responsible agency. Identify the register number, federal case number, sentencing court, institution, and approximate dates. Ask specifically for actual release status rather than a projected date. Use PACER for the judgment and supervision orders.
If an Irion or Tom Green transfer began the chain, keep the local booking number and receiving-agency entry with the federal record. That combination demonstrates where local custody ended and where the federal sentence or pretrial custody began.
Trace an Irion Federal Transfer
Start with the local record. Ask Irion Sheriff whether the person was only processed, housed in Tom Green, or transferred to a federal authority. Ask Tom Green for the booking number, actual transfer time, public code, detainer, and receiving agency. A Released card closes the local booking but cannot establish a later BOP discharge. Preserve that entry as the bridge into federal custody.
Use the federal docket to confirm that a federal criminal case exists. The judgment identifies the prison sentence and supervised-release term. Search BOP by register number, then compare name, age, sex, race, court, and dates. A former-prisoner result labeled Released with a date supports the BOP event. “Not in BOP custody” does not explain whether USMS, ICE, a state, or another authority holds the person.
USMS pretrial or transit custody can use local contract facilities and may not follow the normal sentenced-prison display. Contact the relevant federal district and physical facility when the locator cannot resolve a known federal case. PACER supplies court orders, but the custody agency supplies the physical exit record. Keep those functions separate.
After imprisonment, federal supervised release is administered through U.S. Probation. It is not Texas parole and not Concho Valley probation. A BOP release date can therefore coexist with active federal supervision. It may also coexist with another sovereign's warrant or immigration matter. Final wording should identify the federal sentence released, the date shown, the judgment, and any continuing supervision without claiming that every legal restraint ended.
Federal Record Identity Checks
Federal name matches require care. Prefer the register number and compare the full name, age, sex, race, federal court, offense, and known sentence dates. A shared name can produce the wrong former-prisoner record. The Irion or Tom Green booking number does not substitute for the federal identifier, but the local transfer entry can connect the events.
Preserve the date on which the BOP result was viewed because status pages can change. For a certified or litigated question, use the federal records process and court docket. The public locator is a navigation tool, while the underlying agency and judicial records provide durable proof.
